Abstract
Abstract

Height of the building has now become the primary point of focus of today’s world. Since buildings are getting taller and slender the primary concern of design engineers is shifting from gravity loads to lateral loads. The effect of lateral forces becomes more and more dominant as the building becomes taller and taller. These lateral forces can produce critical stresses in the structure, induce undesirable stresses and vibrations or cause excessive lateral sway of the structure.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FLAT SLAB BUILDING WITH SHEAR WALL AND BRACING

Authors: Md. Shahzar, Md. Tasleem

Published: February 2016
Pages: 12-23
DOI: 10.23586/ij2015/v2.004879
Abstract
Abstract

Earthquake is the natural calamity, it produce strong ground motions which affect the structure. Small or weak motions that can or cannot be felt by the humans. Provision of shear walls and bracings are installed to enhance the lateral stiffness, ductility, minimum lateral displacements and safety of the structure.

PMT-SSA : Parallel Mirror Technique Based Salp Swarm Optimization Algorithm For Engineering Applications

Authors: Sudhir Sharma, Shivani Mehta, Nitesh Kumar Joshi

Published: February 2016
Pages: 24-30
DOI: 10.23586/ij2015/v2.004880
Abstract
Abstract

This paper proposes improved version of existing salp swarm algorithm (SSA) using recently developed opposition-based learning method called parallel mirrors technique (PMT). The improved version of SSA i.e. PMT-SSA is tested on 7 unimodal and 6 multimodal mathematical benchmark functions. The developed algorithm is further applied to solve economic load dispatch problem in power system. The results compared with SSA algorithm verify the superiority of PMT-SSA in solving optimization problems..
